Same as how I was shocked, upon finally watching Shutter Island, to find that not one person I encountered seemed to think that the character had been brainwashed and manipulated in a coverup. It’s as if the entire audience was successfully brainwashed too in collective mass delusion. THAT trend in and of itself is far more terrifying to me than ANY horror movie

Last comment upon wrapping up my listen to the podcast — I find itsad and horrifying that not one of the opinions across the discussion threads seems to posit that Damien is just an innocent kid with psychotic religious nuts foisting blame upon him without evidence of any wrong-doing. It’s not that many see him as definitively the anti-Christ (especially since the sequels throw away any ambiguity on the matter); but, rather that not a single person raises skepticism.

I definitely grew up in a conservative religious-raque household, but it didn’t stick more than a few odd years between 9/11 and me turning 13 and discovering rock music and foreign films through friends and Netflix DVD library respectively (back when it was a cultural asset, not a muting body). Was weird though because my dad’s values seemed more informed by right Christian conservatism than our own religion of Judaism — which I never let him forget during our epic debates.
